Man wearing one shoe punches veteran in street attack

An army veteran was punched in the face in Liverpool city centre.

John Barlow, formerly of the First Battalion Kings Regiment, was on Church Street in the city centre on Friday August 5, when he claims a man walked up and "sucker punched" him to the chin. Mr Barlow, a member of Dovecot Evangelical Church, was recording for a YouTube video using a chest camera at the time of the assault

Footage shows a man approaching the camera wearing one shoe, before sending Mr Barlow stumbling. The attack has left Mr Barlow with pain in his chin. He told the ECHO : "It has made it quite sore to eat any food.

"It wasn't a half effort, he gave everything in his strength which sent me stumbling towards my left hand side. Thankfully I remained on my feet, and called the police."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 1.10pm on Friday August 5, we received a report that a man had been assaulted on Church Street, outside Primark.

"The male suspect was reported to have made off on foot. The victim did not require hospital treatment for his injuries.
