Two people killed after knifeman 'in medieval costume' goes on stabbing spree in Quebec

At least two people have died after a knifeman "dressed in medieval clothing" launched an attack in Canada.

The incident happened in the area of Parliament Hill in Quebec City, near the Chateau Frontenac, on Saturday.

The public were told to stay inside while officers looked for the suspect.

A major police deployment was reported at the scene, with footage on social media showing emergency services rushing to the scene.

Shortly before 1am, local police arrested a suspect, the force confirmed.

Armed officers were also seen patrolling the area, pictures showed.

Early reports indicated that at least two people had been seriously injured in the stabbing, according to Canadian security firm Garda.

Police have not confirmed any deaths or the number of injured people yet but they are due to make a statement today.

However, national public broadcaster Radio-Canada reported at least two people have been killed and five wounded.
