Police were called out over fears a 'man with a firearm' was walking through Bootle wearing a North Face tracksuit today.
A worried member of the public called Merseyside Police after seeing what they believed may have been a firearm on Stanley Road.
Officers were called out to Stanley Road to follow up the unconfirmed report, which was received at 12.40pm.
The caller described seeing a man wearing a navy-coloured North Face tracksuit, who was holding what was believed may have been a firearm.
A spokeswoman for the force said the man was then seen going into a newsagents on Stanley Road with a gang of five men, who left on foot a short time later.
In a brief statement shared with the ECHO , Merseyside Police said: "Officers are in attendance and enquires to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
"Following a search of the area no weapon or anyone matching the descriptions of the males have been located.
"Witnesses are being spoken to and CCTV opportunities explored."
