Man was glassed in Lanarkshire social club after asking to be left alone

A drinker has admitted glassing another man in a social club.

Christopher Vale's victim suffered cuts to the face and has been left with scars.

Vale, of Grayling Road, New Stevenston, was warned he could go to prison when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

The 33-year-old admitted assaulting a man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement at The Club, High Street, Newarthill, on November 6.

Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said the men had been chatting but eventually the victim asked Vale to leave him alone.

The fiscal stated: "The accused then took a glass tumbler and hit him on the left side of the face, causing lacerations to his cheek and eyebrow that have left scars."

Defence agent Stephen Dryden said his client has drugs and alcohol issues.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until September for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

Vale, who had his bail continued, was warned he could go to jail.

The sheriff told him: "This is a very serious matter and I have concerns that you have a similar previous conviction.

"All options are open."
