A warehouse worker was found dead in his car close to where his father and best friend were buried, an inquest opening has heard.
The body of 37-year-old John Patrick Duffy was discovered outside Middleton Cemetery on Saturday, March 4 this year.
A member of the public raised the alarm after finding him in his vehicle close to the cemetery on Boarshaw Road, the hearing was told.
It was later confirmed to be married warehouse operative Mr Duffy, Police Coroner's Officer Jane Scullion told Rochdale Coroner's Court. She told the opening of an inquest into his death that 'medication packets' were found inside the car.
She said the location was 'nearby to where his father and best friend were buried.'
"He has suffered with his mental health for around two years and has previously self-harmed," she continued.
The Detective Inspector who oversaw the investigation into his death was 'satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances', she added.
Area Coroner Catherine McKenna said the results of a post-mortem examination had not yet been received so no cause of death was yet known but said the circumstances suggested it was 'likely to be an unnatural death' and formally opened an inquest.
She asked for the full report from the police's special procedure investigation to be submitted to her and also said she wanted to establish 'if this gentleman was known to mental health services.'
