Man warned he should end relationship after seeing how his girlfriend uses butter

What are the dating red flags you should never ignore under any circumstances? While every relationship is different, love can't always conquer all. And arguably, it should not.

From being rude to waiters to trashing all of their exes, there's a long list of no-nos you ought to watch out for. After all, bad behaviour early on in a relationship does not signal a sparkling future. But a bizarre new problem may have just been added to the warning list, if Reddit is anything to go by. Apparently, you need to watch out for the way your partner uses butter.

Taking to the website, flabbergasted by his girlfriend's dairy carton, one man wondered if there's a wrong way to use the spread. And the answer is a resounding yes, according to commenters, who think using it the wrong way is grounds for a break-up.

A fierce debate was started after u/DifficultySalt4231 asked: "This is how my new partner uses her butter, is she a serial killer based off this information?"

His question was accompanied by a photo of a half-empty tub, in his post to CasualUK. But rather than missing the top half, as you might expect, the girlfriend had carved out one side of the spread.

It emerged she is a "digger", not a "scraper", as one commenter dubbed it. Unfortunately, most of the commenters admitted to being scarpers, and they could not get over the girlfriend's alternate method.

One person wrote: "I think you’re butter off without her." Another thought: "This is unsettling."

However, other commenters had better news for the concerned partner, advising him the relationship could still go on. "Get the little pots, one each. Problem solved happy marriage," read one suggestion.

Someone else pointed out: "No crumbs, you're good." And the partner replied: "Great shout. Not a complete animal in that sense, might be safe after all."

Noticing the lack of crumbs, others suggested there might be a reason behind the girlfriend's 'digging'.

A sharp commenter said: "Looks more like she might use it for cooking and baking as well lol. When you're weighing out 250grams, you just take a chunk, rather than taking the top off the whole thing."

And when a second agreed: "The only thing I can fathom is she uses this stuff in baking and not just for spreading on toast," to which the partner responded: "Very good point! She does make cakes. Maybe there's method to the madness?"

So, despite the boyfriend's fright, it sounds like the story had a happy ending.
