The 33-year-old rapper was shot multiple times at close range as he exited his clothing store at around 3:20pm on Sunday. Two other people were shot at the scene but they have survived.

Los Angeles police have now identified 29-year-old Eric Holder as wanted in connection with the homicide.

In a statement they said the suspect 'walked up to the men and fired numerous shots at them' before running through an adjacent alley and into a waiting vehicle.

After the shooting, Hussle was then taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. A coroner revealed the musician, real name Ermias Asghedom, was shot three times in the head and chest.

Meanwhile, a vigil for the rapper at the place where he was shot resulted in a stampede after fears someone had opened fire.

According to reports, at least 10 people were injured in the rush when mourners attempted to flee the area.

It's not clear what caused the panic and Chief Michael Moore of the LAPD said that initial reports of shots being fired were untrue.
