Man wanted in connection with child porn offences arrested by gardai in Dublin Airport

A man wanted in connection with child porn offences has been arrested by gardai in Dublin Airport.

Last week Hungarian police arrested the Irish man who fled to Budapest in 2016 as part of a joint European operation.

The man had been charged in Ireland but failed to appear in court sparking a man hunt to bring him back.

He was flown back to Ireland on Friday morning and met by gardai in the airport.

A spokesman said: "Today Friday 20th December 2019, following an operation conducted by the Extradition Unit at the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Gardaí arrested a man at Dublin Airport following his extradition from Budapest, Hungary, where he was arrested on Wednesday 11th December 2019 on foot of a European Arrest Warrant for offences committed in this jurisdiction.

"He was sought by An Garda Síochána in respect of alleged offences under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

"This investigation involved close cooperation between An Garda Síochána, Hungarian Authorities and other partners of the ENFAST Network (European Network Fugitive Active Search Teams).

"The man will be transferred to Killarney Garda Station where he will be processed. He will appear before Limerick Circuit Court on the morning of Monday 23rd December 2019."

Earlier this week Hungarian police released dramatic footage showing his arrest.

The operation was a joint effort by the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams [ENFAST].

Local police say the man had been funding himself in the Eastern European city by teaching English.

The man, known as 'Daniel C', left Ireland after child porn was allegedly found stored on a computer following a search in his home.

Last Saturday an order was made for his arrest and gardai contacted Hungarian cops.

He was arrested on December 11 before plans were then made to transport him back to Ireland.
