Man walks out on restaurant bill and steals tip jar from staff

A customer walked out on his restaurant bill and stole the staff tip jar.

Deli Volare on Lord Street, Southport, served a man who walked off without paying and also snatched the tip jar from next to the till.

The popular deli say the incident occurred at around 7.30pm on Friday, August 13 and they shared CCTV which shows a man who Merseyside Police believes may hold 'vital' information.

Deli Volare owner, Onofrio Maimone, told the ECHO: "They took around £100 which isn't a lot but it's the principal, not the amount of money. At the end of the day you have to take it on the chin and carry on."

Merseyside Police is now appealing for information and enquiries are ongoing.

Community Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “It really beggars belief that someone could stoop as low as stealing tips from a local business, who like so many people in our community, have endured a turbulent 18 months.

“We believe that the person pictured in CCTV images may hold vital information, so come forward if you recognise them and we will do the rest.”
