Man Utd would sell Paul Pogba... but he will cost Real Madrid £200m, insists Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov believes Paul Pogba will make a dramatic move from Manchester United to Real Madrid this summer - providing that the Spanish giants get serious with their transfer fee.

Pogba remains a key target for Real before the European transfer window shuts on September 2, with Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane a big fan of the United midfielder.

Zidane sees compatriot Pogba as the player to build a long-term midfield plan around. While the World Cup winner has declared his preference for a "fresh challenge", Real have so far fallen well short of United's valuation.

Standard Sport understands that United rejected Real’s offer of a player-plus-cash deal involving James Rodriguez and £27.6million on top before the Premier League window closed on August 8, with the Red Devils seeking a fee well in excess of £150m.

Madrid were put off a move for Pogba when the midfielder became available in 2016, baulking at the £89.3m fee United eventually paid Juventus.

However, Pogba would be even more costly this time around and Real need to sell several players before they are able to fund a deal - and Real's failure to land seal the deal so far has reportedly caused tensions between Zidane and club president Florentino Perez.

Berbatov has previous experience of late, dramatic transfers having joined United from Tottenham on deadline day in summer 2008, and went on to win the Premier League twice at Old Trafford.

While Berbatov believes United must do all they can to keep Pogba, the Bulgarian thinks the Red Devils could well sell the France international if Real meet their valuation.

"Zinedine Zidane would love to bring Paul Pogba to Real Madrid but, against Chelsea on Sunday, we saw why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to keep the French midfielder," Berbatov told Betfair.

"Pogba's perfect pass to Marcus Rashford for United's third goal was what I call 'pure football'. When I played for United, Michael Carrick would get the ball and his first thought was always to play it forward.

"He knew exactly where I was and there are plenty of examples of him giving me the ball to score a goal. Special players save their energy for the exact right moment.

"If United receive a bid from Madrid in the next fortnight in the region of £200m, then the transfer will happen.

"But I hope Pogba stays at United and I don't think Zidane will quit Madrid if he fails to sign his compatriot."
