Man Utd wonderkid Hannibal Mejbri unveiled in X Factor-style ceremony after switching allegiance

Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri received an eye-catching unveiling following his first international call-up for Tunisia.

The 18-year-old has previously represented France at youth level, featuring for the under-16s and under-17s in recent years, but recently switched allegiances.

Mejbri is now available for international friendlies against DR Congo, Algeria and Mali, all of which will take place next month.

His decision to represent Tunisia has been viewed as a major boost for the country, and they were certainly keen to let the youngster know how they viewed securing his services.

A video shared on Twitter showed the moment that Mejbri was officially unveiled as a Tunisia player, which features dramatic music and a room packed full of people waiting to welcome the country's new recruit.

Following almost a full minute of build-up, he walked out onto the stage as strobe lighting flickered and cannons shot flames up into the air.

Mejbri is eligible to play for Tunisia due to both of his parents being from the country.

Players are also allowed to declare for a country their grandmother or grandfather was born in or where they’ve lived continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18.

He will now be setting his sights on appearing for Tunisia at the next African Cup of Nationals, which will take place in Cameroon between January 9 and February 6, 2022.

At club level, there are also high hopes for Mejbri.

He made his first-team debut for the Red Devils on the final day of the Premier League season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side earned a 2-1 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He has predominantly featured for United's Under-23s this campaign and has received plenty of praise from boss Neil Wood.

“When he first came up, he was full of energy and was running everywhere, sometimes to the detriment of the team," the under-23s coach said.

“His discipline has improved greatly, on and off the ball, and his defensive responsibility. He's really starting to understand that a little bit more.

“It was difficult at the start as the physicality was a step up for him but he's a tough kid. I think he can take the knocks and can look after himself.

“I think, towards the end of the year, once we got into the Blackburn and Liverpool games, we started to see him perform and take off."

United beat off interest from a number of clubs to sign Mejbri from Monaco in July 2019.

The Paris-born prospect penned a new, long-term contract at Old Trafford in March.
