Man Utd Women sign Man City Women's Abbie McManus in 'dream come true' move

England defender Abbie McManus has sealed a "dream" move to Manchester United Women after spending most of her career with Manchester City Women.

The 26-year-old joins on a free after her contract at the Women's Super League runners-up expired. She becomes Casey Stone's second summer signing after Jackie Groenen.

McManus, part of the Lionesses squad for this summer's World Cup in France, left City last week after spending more than a decade with the club in two spells either side of a brief stint with Sheffield Ladies.

She made her senior international debut in Phil Neville's first game as England boss, the 4-1 SheBelieves Cup win over France in February 2018, and has 12 caps in total.

McManus said in a post on social media on Friday: "Over the moon to join Man Utd Women. My childhood dream has come true. Super excited to start my journey with this club! #MUWomen."

Holland midfielder Groenen signed a similar agreement earlier this week with United, who won the Women's Championship in their inaugural season last term.
