Man Utd will stumble upon successful transfer strategy, says Gary Neville

Gary Neville appears unconcerned by fears that Manchester United are falling behind their Premier League rivals and believes the club will eventually find the right recruitment system.

The Red Devils - who began the new campaign with a promising 4-0 demolition of Chelsea on Sunday - have not won a top-flight title since 2013 amid a tumultuous period following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, while they have managed to finish in the top four just twice in the last six seasons.

A problematic transfer policy has been a major concern, with United's failure to strengthen beyond the additions of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James this summer causing no shortage of consternation and more ire to be directed at the ownership of the Glazer family.

Many supporters are inevitably concerned that the club are slipping further behind the likes of champions Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham, though Neville sees it as a cyclical situation that can be remedied by good decisions in the boardroom and recruitment departments at Old Trafford.

"Liverpool, City, Tottenham. All these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25-30 years at times," he told Sky Sports.

"United are going through one at the moment. Eventually they'll stumble upon the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people."
