Man Utd whizkid Mason Greenwood discusses following in Marcus Rashford's footsteps

Manchester United’s teenage star Mason Greenwood has discussed following in Marcus Rashford’s footsteps.

After Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez’s departure to Inter Milan last summer, Greenwood has broken into the first team squad this season, bagging 10 goals in his breakthrough campaign.

Rashford, meanwhile, has gone to another level to this term, netting 19 times in all competitions.

However, the England striker has been out since sustaining a double stress fracture to his back last month.

With the 22-year-old having already made 200 appearances for the club, Greenwood hopes to emulate his success at Old Trafford.

He told SPORTBible: "He’s been in the academy and come through the ranks and I feel like I’m following in his footsteps.

"He’s a few years older than me but I can definitely take a lot of inspiration from what he has achieved so far.

"I’ve known him for a long time so I've seen how well he has done and how he has progressed as a player, so there’s lots to learn from being around him."

Greenwood also reflected on emerging at the age of just 16 during United’s 2018 pre-season tour.

He added: "It was a different level really. The crowds there were all a lot bigger than what I was used to playing in front of, and there were a lot of fans from all around the world, so it was a good experience.

"To go away with strikers such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku was the best way to learn, just seeing how they worked as top strikers and top finishers was great for me.

"They all looked after me and helped me on and off the pitch."

The Red Devils have struggled this term and currently sit seventh in the Premier League with just 35 points from 25 games.

Greenwood will be in contention to face Chelsea, who are six points clear of them in fourth, in their next game on 17 February as the battle to secure Champions League football next season intensifies.
