Man Utd weigh up transfer of £50m Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek

Manchester United are considering a move for Ajax's £50million-rated midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The goalscoring midfielder was one of Ajax’s stand-out players in their run to last season's Champions League semi-finals last season and could be available to sign this month.

Ajax's failure to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League has alerted Europe's top clubs to the potential availability of their best talent, with United weighing up a move for van de Beek.

The 22-year-old would go a long way to solving Solskjaer's midfield problem this month, with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay both out for one and two months respectively through injury.

Solskajer needs to strengthen his midfield and van de Beek fits the profile of the player he wants, as someone who has proved himself at the highest level but has yet to fulfil his full potential.

Although United accept January is a difficult month to land their marquee transfer targets, van de Beek is one that could be secured immediately and slot straight into their midfield.

With Solskjaer's only fit central midfield options currently comprising Fred, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira, the United boss has told executive vice-chairman he needs to bring in at least one player in the January transfer window.
