Man Utd warned they face losing battle for Declan Rice as transfer hopes dashed

Manchester United have been warned they do not have the pull they once did under Sir Alex Ferguson when it comes to luring the best talent to Old Trafford.

With the January transfer window now open, speculation has been rife over which players Ralf Rangnick could aim to recruit in a bid to bolster his options for the remainder of the season.

One name that has cropped up relentlessly is West Ham's Declan Rice, the 22-year-old wanted by just about every single one of the Premier League's big-hitters, especially United and Chelsea who have both made little secret of their interest.

However, United have been told by former Rangers star and talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist that Rice is hardly likely to view Old Trafford as his ideal destination amid interest from elsewhere.

Discussing Rice's future, McCoist explained: "I'd love to see him stay at West Ham, if there is continued improvement at West Ham, and for that there will have to be support and investment - which I think David Moyes and the West Ham supporters deserve, then I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs around for another couple of years.

"Massive club, fighting for top four, things are going well, where is he going to go? Is he going to go to Manchester City? Is he going to go to Chelsea? He's not going to go to Manchester United is he?"

McCoist was then pressed as to whether United still have the same allure to players from other clubs as they once did, to which he claimed: "They won't have the draw that they once did under Ferguson because they've slipped, they really have slipped.

"Now, there are other teams that have equal if not even greater pull, I include Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool in that.

"Does he [Rice] want to go and play and compete at the top level? Of course he does, but the one he still does have is time on his side, it will be an interesting one.

"He could move, because he's that good he could walk into most big big teams, it's an interesting decision he'll have to make."

Rice has enjoyed another stellar season in the heart of West Ham's midfield, both domestically and on the continent.

The Hammers have enjoyed a successful run in the Europa League that has seen them reach the knockout stages in what is their first time in the competition.

Rice's side currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, just one point adrift of Arsenal in fourth.
