Sporting president Frederico Varandas has warned Manchester United they will have to pay north of £56million to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to add at least two midfielders to his squad before the August deadline, with Fernandes and Sean Longstaff high on his list of transfer targets.
The United boss has spelt out that he will not pay inflated fees for his targets, but Leicester continue to hold out for £90million for Harry Maguire while Newcastle have quoted £50million for Longstaff.
And now Sporting are insistent that they will firmly resist any bids short of their valuation.
“I don’t know if there are many or if there are few [interested clubs],” Varandas told RTP. “What I know, a lot has been spoken of values, coming to the press, €55m, €62m… for that he doesn’t leave, for sure.”
“If Bruno Fernandes leaves, players with quality will come. But if Bruno leaves.”
However, Solskjaer's midfield plans could all change if Paul Pogba departs this summer.
Real Madrid are desperate to sign Pogba, but United have slapped prohibitive £170million valutaion on the France international.
