Man Utd vs Liverpool is marked in Juan Mata's calendar: 'It's one of the big ones'

Juan Mata is eagerly anticipating Manchester United's upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool as the Red Devils aim to dent their fierce rivals' title bid.

Manchester City currently sit top of the table on goal difference, though Liverpool hold a game in hand over the champions ahead of what could be a pivotal weekend in the title race.

Man City have played a game more than Liverpool due to their successful domestic cup runs, and face Chelsea in the EFL Cup Final on Sunday - the same day Jurgen Klopp's Reds head to Old Trafford to play their game in hand in the League.

Liverpool should theoretically be favourites to beat United considering their 14-point cushion over the Red Devils, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival as interim manager has turned United's season around.

Solskjaer has guided United to 11 wins in his first 13 games, and his resurgent side host Liverpool fresh off the back of a convincing 2-0 FA Cup win at Chelsea on Monday night.

While harming Liverpool's title chances would be reason enough to turn in a performance on Sunday, United have their own top four race to think about as they sit a point ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea in fifth and sixth places respectively.

Speaking after United's win at Chelsea, Mata - who scored a famous double to earn United a 2-1 win at Anfield back in 2015 - told reporters: "It's one of those games we have in our calendar with a red spot waiting for it.

"It's one of the big ones and we want to win. We play at home and hopefully it will be a very good day for us at Old Trafford."
