Man Utd vs Arsenal: Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood may return; Marcus Rashford set to miss out

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have to rush Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood back for Manchester United's Premier League clash against Arsenal on Monday week as Marcus Rashford faces a spell on the sidelines.

With Martial (thigh) and Greenwood (tonsillitis) already missing United's trip to West Ham on Sunday, Solskjaer's injury problems mounted further when Rashford limped off the London Stadium pitch with a thigh problem as the Red Devils trailed 1-0 midway through the second half.

Rashford's departure left United with no recognised striker either on the pitch or to call on from the bench, and they went on to lose 2-0 having had just three shots on target.

Solskjaer was downbeat about Rashford's thigh problem, saying after the match: "He felt his groin. We'll do a scan tomorrow to see how badly he's injured.

"I don’t know how long he’ll be out, I’m not a doctor. But he'll probably be out for a little while."

However, Solskjaer suggested that he hopes at least one of Martial or Greenwood will be available for United's Carabao Cup clash against Rochdale on Wednesday night, and hopes to be able to name both of them in his squad to face Arsenal.

"Hopefully Mason and Anthony will be back for the Arsenal game and at least one of them for Rochdale," Solskjaer said, with the manager also confirming before the game that Paul Pogba should return for the cup game.

The return of Martial, Greenwood and Pogba for the match against Arsenal would be a huge boost for Solskjaer, with United already trailing leaders Liverpool by 10 points after just six games.

While a title challenge was never a realistic aim this season, a top-four finish is vital to the club's rebuilding plans - and United cannot afford a defeat against Arsenal with the Gunners currently sitting three points above them in fourth place.
