Man Utd urged not to sell Paul Pogba in January transfer window

Manchester United have been urged not to sell Paul Pogba in the January transfer window.

Pogba has long been linked with a move away from United, with the midfielder having agitated for a switch to Real Madrid last summer while also being linked with former club Juventus .

When his return from three months out with an ankle injury was further delayed by illness this month, it fuelled speculation that he would not play for United again with the January transfer window looming.

However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear Pogba is part of his plans, and the 26-year-old finally made his return to action in the Red Devils' 2-0 defeat to Watford on Sunday.

Pogba came on for the final 26 minutes with United already 2-0 down, and showed signs of the attacking guile Solskjaer's side had been missing against the Premier League's bottom side.

And former Liverpool and Tottenham striker Peter Crouch, who was analysing the game for Match of the Day 2, has explained why he thinks United must hold on to Pogba.

"The Hornets made things difficult for them by keeping lot of men behind the ball, and they did not leave any space for Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard or Daniel James to run into behind them," Crouch told the BBC .

"He stood out as soon as he came on because he is forward-thinking, whereas Scott McTominay and Fred just do not see the same things he does, or try them.

"Those two have different strengths and with Pogba alongside them, they make a well-balanced midfield unit but, without him, there is just not enough creativity there."

Crouch added: "You could see the effect his introduction had on the movement of Martial, Rashford and Mason Greenwood on Sunday, because suddenly they were on the move as soon as he got on the ball.

"Quite simply, he is better than anything else United have got and, if he wants to stay, they should keep him and use him properly by building their team around him."
