Man Utd U-turn opens door to further transfers before deadline day

Diogo Dalot could be on the way out of Manchester United, as Borussia Dortmund open talks to sign the right-back.

Signed in 2018, the Portuguese international has struggled to establish himself in English football and spent last season on-loan with AC Milan.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was impressed with his spell in Italy and used him throughout their preparations for the new season.

However, Dalot has been an unused substitute in the opening pair of Premier League games with Aaron Wan-Bissaka well ahead of him in the pecking order.

Earlier this month, Manchester Evening News reported that United were looking to keep the 22-year-old as cover for first-choice Wan-Bissaka.

Milan attempted to bring him back to the San Siro at the start of the summer, only for his parent club to reject that approach.

As well as United being happy for him to remain at Old Trafford, the report suggested that the player himself would be open to staying in Manchester, believing he can offer worth competition to Wan-Bissaka.

However, with less than a week of the window remaining, it appears he could yet be moved on as Sky Sports report Dortmund have opened talks.

The Bundesliga club would like to sign Dalot on a season-long loan deal which would give them the option to make it permanent next summer.

As well as Dortmund, German rivals Bayern Munich are said to have an interest, while Milan could launch another approach before the August 31 deadline.

United have already allowed Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams go out on loan, joining Aston Villa and Norwich respectively, meaning there would be little in the way of cover should Dalot depart.

That could open the door for one more arrival, despite Solskjaer suggesting any further signings would be a “bonus”.

The Red Devils have got their business completed early this summer, already sealing deals for Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

And asked at the start of the week whether any more deals could be finalised, he told VGTV: “I don’t think much is going to happen. If something happens, it is a bonus. You never know what happens in the world of football.

“But we’ve had a very good window. I am happy with what we’ve done.”

Kieran Trippier has been extensively linked for much of the window, but have thus far been able to strike a deal with Atletico Madrid.

United have targeted the England international due to his extra attacking output compared to Wan-Bissaka, but the Spanish champions are unwilling to sell the full-back on the cheap, despite his desire to play for his boyhood club.

Trippier has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, but United could reportedly make one final push to sign him.
