Man Utd transfer round-up: Ten Hag rekindles De Jong interest as target breaks silence

There's still plenty to play for in the Premier League, but already, the focus at Manchester United is beginning to shift towards the summer transfer window.

Although Erik ten Hag has only been in position at Old Trafford for a matter of months, the Dutchman has breathed new life into the club by ending a six-year trophy drought and getting them firmly back on track for Champions League qualification.

It's expected that the former Ajax boss will be backed with significant funds in the summer as he continues to reshape a playing squad that is still short in a number of areas, with an elite striker known to be at the top of his wishlist.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news from in and around Old Trafford as we come towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign...

Ten Hag rekindles De Jong interest

Erik ten Hag could be about to rekindle his interest in Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong - 12 months on from the unsuccessful pursuit that dominated the majority of the last summer transfer window.

Ten Hag worked closely with De Jong at Ajax, where the Dutch midfielder thrived before moving to Spain, and quickly installed the 25-year-old as his primary transfer target after arriving at United.

However, De Jong was reluctant to move to Old Trafford with the club in turmoil following their worst-ever campaign in the Premier League era. It remains to be seen if De Jong would now be open to a move, but ESPN claim that Manchester United are still interested in the Barcelona star ahead of the summer transfer window.

Raya breaks silence on links

Highly-rated Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has admitted that it is "nice" to be linked with big clubs amid interested from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Raya has established himself as one of the top goalkeeper's in the Premier League since the Bees achieved promotion to the top-flight back in 2021 and will have just one year remaining on his contract at the end of the current campaign.

That has prompted bigger clubs to take stock of his situation - and he admitted on the Yours, Mine, Away! podcast that he was flattered by the interest being shown in him ahead of a potential summer move.

While long-term No.1 David de Gea is expected to sign a new contract on reduced terms, there have been various reports throughout the season that Ten Hag has been scouring the market for another goalkeeper.

PSG make Kane 'priority'

Manchester United's hopes of signing Harry Kane from Tottenham have been dealt a major blow with Paris Saint-Germain identifying the England captain as a 'priority' target.

That's according to French outlet Le Parisien, who claim that the Ligue 1 giants are hoping to pair the potent forward up with Kylian Mbappe to form a dream strike partnership.

Manchester United are expected to make a move for Kane at the end of the season as they bid to acquire an elite striker ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
