Man Utd transfer round-up: Spurs join Danny Ings race as Declan Rice competition ramps up

It has been an encouraging season for Manchester United, but if they are to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title, reinforcements will be needed.

The Red Devils have finished some way behind their fierce rivals this term, but do have the opportunity to win the Europa League.

Despite that though, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to bolster his squad in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Top of the agenda is a new midfielder and a defender, with Solskjaer also looking to add a striker to his team despite the recent extension of Edinson Cavani’s contract.

United face City competition for Rice

Manchester United are reportedly facing competition from fierce rivals Manchester City for the signing of Declan Rice.

Rice has been a long-time target for the Red Devils, with his performances for West Ham this season attracting the interest of many top Premier League clubs.

United view the Englishman as the perfect player to take their midfield to the next level, having captained the Hammers to a likely European place this term.

But the Express reports that City have now joined the race to sign him, with the Manchester clubs set to battle it out to complete a transfer this summer.

Spurs join Ings race

With Danny Ings set to enter the final year of his contract at Southampton, United are eyeing a summer move for him.

Ings has impressed on the south coast over the past two seasons, scoring 48 goals in all competitions for the Saints in that time period.

Though they tied Edinson Cavani down to a new contract, United still want to sign a new striker this summer and have set their eyes on Ings.

But according to The Telegraph, they are facing competition from Tottenham, with a new forward now a must considering Harry Kane’s demand for a departure.

Manchester United’s transfer strategy over recent season has mainly revolved around bringing in young players who can develop into stars in the first team.

It should come as no surprise then to see BILD report that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for Aston Villa’s academy product Carney Chukwuemeka.

The 17-year-old has earnt England youth caps during his time at Villa Park and he was handed his top-flight debut in the win over Spurs on Wednesday.
