Man Utd transfer round-up: Saul Niguez's Old Trafford package, Chris Smalling's admirers

With participation in next season’s Champions League already secured, Manchester United are prepared to spend big in the transfer market to once again challenge for the Premier League title.

The club’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho has been a complex chess game with Borussia Dortmund – and one that shows no sign of coming to an end any time soon – but that is unlikely to stop United from doing further deals this summer.

Defeat in the Europa League semi-final showed that the Red Devils still have a long way to go when it comes to competing with the continent's elite.

With that in mind here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours.

Magpies targeting wantaway defender

Newcastle United are interested in taking Chris Smalling from Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

Smalling, 30, spent last season on loan at Roma and found a rich vein of form in the Eternal City.

He was keen to remain at the club, but with Roma in the middle of a takeover, it has been difficult to sanction a permanent transfer.

That may change, but in the meantime, the Magpies have registered an interest. Steve Bruce is keen to reshape the Newcastle squad after a solid first season in charge at St James’ Park, and he views Smalling as the ideal candidate to man his defence.

Man Utd tracking Spanish midfielder

Manchester United continue to be linked with Saul Niguez, and now The Star claim the club are ready to make a huge offer for the midfielder.

Niguez, 25, is a product of the Atletico Madrid academy and a senior Spanish international. He has won several major honours under the guidance of Diego Simeone, but United are ready to tempt him with an offer of £150,000-per-week.

The report states Atletico’s exit from Europe will push forward a deal for the midfielder, who is valued at £70million.

Man Utd agree a fee with promising youngster

Manchester United and Partizan Belgrade have agreed a fee for Filip Stevanovic, according to Serbian outlet Republika.

Stevanovic will cost the club €12million according to the report and represents a boost for the club amid their attempts to secure Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The 17-year-old made his debut for Partizan in 2018 and could spend another 12 months with the Serbian giants before moving to Old Trafford.

The teenager should be familiar to United fans after facing them twice in the Europa League this season, and he became the youngest player to score in a UEFA competition for Partizan last August.
