Man Utd transfer round-up: Red Devils dealt Varane blow, Mendes targeted Fati deal

Manchester United may have spent millions in the summer transfer window when they recruited Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri, but the rumour mill continues to swirl.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still looking to strengthen his squad and, after leaving it late in the last window, there are sure to be more incomings and outgoings in January.

United are hopeful of offloading a number of fringe men, with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero all at the front of the queue to depart.

Meanwhile, young winger Amad Diallo is set to complete his switch to Old Trafford from Atalanta - but will there be more new additions?

Here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours.

United target Varane is “non-transferable”

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has quashed rumours about Manchester United signing Raphael Varane.

The Reds were said to be interested in the French centre-back in 2011 before he left Lens for the Spanish giants, with reports recently emerging that they are targeting him again to amend their defensive issues.

But in an interview cited by the Daily Star , the Madrid boss suggested that Varane is still an integral part of his plans.

Zidane said: “He is part of this club, and we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid. Of course, he is non-transferable for the club, for the coach that I am, for people in general.

“That’s clear and unambiguous. For Varane, my position is clear, and it’s the same as the club’s position.”

Turkish delight for Rojo?

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo may be on his way to Fenerbahce.

The Argentine international centre-back has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and has failed to make an appearance this season.

And, according to Turkish outlet Fotomac , Fenerbahce have identified Rojo as a priority during the January transfer window.

The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to be offered a new deal.

He will be able to enter talks with non-English clubs in January, too.

Mendes attempted to bring Barca youngster to United

Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati could have joined Manchester United in the summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport .

It claims that super agent Jorge Mendes attempted to craft a deal that would have seen Fati head to the Reds for a fee of around £150million.

The 18-year-old, who is already making waves at club and senior international level with Spain, is seen as the natural heir to Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp, but Mendes believed he could have taken advantage of the woeful financial situation at Barcelona to secure a transfer to United.

A deal was reportedly agreed, but Barcelona refused to accept the proposal.
