Man Utd transfer round-up: Erik ten Hag sends Marcus Rashford message amid PSG concern

There's only a matter of days left of the January transfer window and Erik ten Hag is putting the final touches on his squad for the second half of the season.

Manchester United remain the only Premier League side left in four competitions, as Ten Hag targets a first trophy for the Red Devils in nearly six years - the club's longest drought since 1983. The Dutchman has already bolstered his squad with the arrivals of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst, both on loan, but he's hinted that there could be more additions before next Tuesday's deadline.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

Ten Hag sends Rashford message amid PSG links

Erik ten Hag has urged Marcus Rashford to stay at Manchester United as links of a move to Paris Saint-Germain persist. The 25-year-old forward is currently in the form of his life but his entourage held talks with PSG last summer regarding a potential move to the French capital when his stock was far lower, and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed their interest in December.

As negotiations over a new contract at United go on, with the club yet to tie Rashford down beyond June 2024, Ten Hag has sent him a message in a plea for him to remain at Old Trafford. "I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first but also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football," the Red Devils boss stated on Sunday.

"He is improving and that is about him because he's working on the good things. He is giving 100 percent energy and he has a good plan and I think also in this team he can bring his qualities. So this team can help him be in the right position and to score goals, which he is good at.

"This team is constructed that his qualities come to the fore and I think he knows that but, definitely yes, he is important for us and if we want to get the success we want, we need him. I hope that all our players can have interest from clubs because that means you do a good job, [that] the team is outperforming so that is what we are aiming for."

Forward still wanted in January

United are still looking sign another forward before deadline day, it's been claimed. Despite bringing in Dutch striker Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season, a fresh report from the Mail suggests that Ten Hag would ideally like to recruit another attacking option before the window slams shut next Tuesday.

However, the Red Devils are only prepared to sanction a loan move for a small fee. Long-term targets include Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Goncalo Ramos, as Ten Hag holds out hope that his forward line will bolstered again before next Tuesday.

The United manager recently hinted that he was open to more arrivals by saying: "With Wout, we have an extra player. In the balance of the squad, it's what we need. I am happy with that, so if there are more opportunities we will be ready for that and looking for that, but it has to be once again the right player.

"With the numbers here, I think with the signing of Wout and development of some players here - Alejandro Garnacho is the best example but also Kobbie Mainoo and Facundo Pellestri - I think also we have some good young players that can also fight for their minutes. They have to deserve it in training and when they are ready to compete, then we are not hesitating to play them."

La Liga starlet linked

Real Betis ace Luiz Henrique has been tipped to join the Red Devils - despite his reported £44million price tag. According to Mundo Deportivo, Old Trafford chiefs are weighing up the possibility of signing the versatile Brazilian forward, having closely monitoring him for a period of time.

Premier League rivals Aston Villa also believed to be keen on 22-year-old Henrique, who's racked up three goals and five assists in 24 matches for Betis so far this season. Primarily operating on the right flank for the Spanish side, the former Fluminense starlet would add another dimension to Ten Hag's attack.
