Man Utd transfer round-up: Eduardo Camavinga opportunity as Axel Tuanzebe seals move

Manchester United have been ruthless in the summer transfer window this year making their intentions of a Premier League title crystal clear after mounting pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to lead the club to some silverware.

Last year the Red Devils spent a significant stretch of the season nipping at the heels of Manchester City, who claimed the Premier League title by 12 points. City too have been busy this summer having signed English wonderkid Jack Grealish, so Solsjkaer is looking to bolster his side as much as possible.

Solskjaer will be delighted to have finally secured Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, but their total transfer bill looks set to soar well into nine figures if there are any more additions.

But with some departures from Old Trafford imminent, cash flow is healthy at Man Utd and the absent players will create some room for further squad development.

So here is the latest Manchester United transfer news:

Tuanzebe's Villa loan

Axel Tuanzebe has returned to Aston Villa on a year-long long having been one of the key members of the squad that secured promotion back to the Premier League back in 2019.

But Tuanzebe has signed a contract that will keep him officially at Old Trafford until June 2023 with the option to extend the deal for another year.

Tuanzebe, from Democratic Republic of Congo, spent the vast majority of the 2020/21 season benched due to injury and only featured in nine Premier League games.

He was named among Villa's substitutes for their pre-season friendly against Italian club Salernitana on Sunday.

Camavinga opportunity

Man Utd are pushing for a signature from 18-year-old Eduardo Camavinga from Ligue 1 side Rennes – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping before PSG get to him first.

The United boss is hoping to take advantage of Paris’ pursuit of Lionel Messi which may give the Red Devils a window of opportunity, but the Norwegian also has interest from Real Madrid to contend with.

But Carlo Ancelotti’s desire to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish capital could work in Solskjaer’s favour, especially if Messi does sign for the Parisian side – making 22-year-old Mbappe’s departure even more likely.

Rennes are almost certain to sell Camavinga during this summer’s transfer window – he was prohibited from joining the France team at the Tokyo Olympics to ensure they could sell him before the window closes and there is only one remaining year on his contract.

Camavinga is one of the most precocious footballing talents in the world, having featured 35 times for Rennes in Ligue 1 already and tallying an additional four Champions League appearances – one of which against 2020-21 victors Chelsea.

£20million not enough for Trippier
Atletico Madrid rejected Man Utd's £20million bid for Kieran Trippier (PA)

The Red Devils’ bid of £20million for Atlético Madrid and England defender Kieran Trippier is reported to have fallen £14million short of the Spanish side’s valuation.

Atlético Madrid are said to want £34million for the former Tottenham full back, who started in 35 games in all competitions last season and was a key feature in the side that helped secure the La Liga silverware.

Solskjaer is keen to add an attacking alternative at right-back and sees Trippier as the ideal man for the job.

But now Arsenal have also registered interest in Trippier given that Héctor Bellerín’s impending departure will leave a noticeable gap in the Gunners’ defensive line-up.

Trippier has spoken out on the rumours of foreign interest and insists he’s concentrating purely on his game for the time being.

“I’ve just enjoyed the season [at Atlético] and we’ve won the title,” he told The Guardian.

“I’m away with England, we’re playing Denmark and I’m not focusing on my club or what is going on. I’m just focused on England and doing as best as I can if I play. If I don’t play, I still give 100 per cent.”
