Man Utd transfer round-up: Cristiano Ronaldo's contract decision and Paul Pogba blunder

Manchester United will be working tirelessly behind the scenes with the January transfer window fast approaching.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were active in the summer with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho arriving at the club to give them plenty of firepower at the top end of the pitch.

But there is one area they didn't address - their midfield.

United were linked with several players in that position, but a deal did not materialise as they decided to stick with what they already had.

But it's been a glaring weakness for the Red Devils and it wouldn't come as a surprise if it's a problem they try and solve in the winter.

Here are the latest transfer rumours and news coming out of Old Trafford.

Ronaldo makes early decision on contract

Cristiano Ronaldo could trigger the option of a third-year on his contract as he looks to set to make Manchester his permanent home.

Following his September move, Ronaldo revealed his hopes to finish his career at Old Trafford.

And it seems like that could become a reality as it's claimed he wants to use the northwest as a base when his playing days finish.

There are also reports Ronaldo could indeed take up the option of the third year in the contract he signed with United in the summer, having initially penned a two-year deal that included several clauses.

According to a SunSport source: “Cristiano has lived all over the world, but England has always held a special place in his heart. He loves the northwest and is looking to find a permanent base that he can call home after he retires from the game.

“Cristiano still believes he has at least two or three more years left playing, but he always has one eye on the future.”

Pogba blunder

It has emerged Manchester United failed to give Paul Pogba contract extension in 2019 - something the player was open to.

The Frenchman is a free agent next summer and can talk to clubs for free as of January.

United are keen to tie him down to a new deal but talks have stalled between the two parties.

And it's a scenario that could have been avoided if the Red Devils had tabled fresh terms in 2019 which Pogba reportedly would have been open to, reports the Daily Mail.

McAtee on United's radar

Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Manchester City youth player James McAtee

The19-year-old has just 18 months left to run on his City contract as United and Barcelona are among the clubs keeping a close eye on the youngster.

The teenager was originally on the books at United, before being released by the Red Devils and then making the move to the Etihad.

But it seems Man United are keen on a reunion as they are impressed with how he's developed since leaving.
