Man Utd transfer round-up: Barcelona targeting Paul Pogba as Diogo Dalot receives boost

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a mixed summer in the transfer market.

The Norwegian wanted Jadon Sancho at Old Trafford, but Ed Woodward was unable to deliver on that wish. Instead, the club signed Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Uruguayan pair Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellestri.

It has left fans torn as they felt this was a summer for the club to show unfettered ambition as they look to get back to the summit of English football.

That hasn’t stopped fans dreaming of more deals, potentially in January, and with that in mind here are the latest Manchester United transfer rumours.

Barcelona targeting Man Utd midfielder

Barcelona are considering a move for midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports from ESPN.

Pogba has long wanted to play for Real Madrid, and rumours are persisting that the player is considering his future at Old Trafford.

Pogba is under the contract with the club until 2021, but Man Utd can extend his deal for a further year.

The report identifies Juventus and Real Madrid as possible interested parties, but the midfielder is still open to the idea of moving to Camp Nou.

Manchester United opted not to include a purchase option in Milan’s deal for Diogo Dalot because they believe he may have a future at the club, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 21-year-old full-back joined Man Utd from Portuguese giants FC Porto in 2018 but has been unable to nail down a starting place at Old Trafford.

The arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka further impacted his game time, and now he will spend the season in Serie A with Milan.

Speaking to Sky Sports in Italy, Di Marzio explained that Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were desperate to sign the defender, but they will only be allowed to loan him.

That is because United want to reevaluate his situation next summer.

Ighalo not concerned by Cavani arrival

Odion Ighalo will not be deterred in his pursuit of first-team football after the arrival of Edinson Cavani.

Cavani, 33, signed an initial one-year deal with the Reds after leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The news may have come as a blow to Ighalo, who is currently on loan at Old Trafford from Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo’s current deal expires in January, but the striker will remain dedicated in his pursuit of first-team football at Old Trafford.

“It’s good for the team, for everybody to be on their toes to work hard,” he told TeamTalk. “For a big team, like Manchester United, you have to have competition for players to do well. I welcome the new guys coming in.

“They will bring more challenges to everyone in the team, to work hard for their positions to play in the team.”

“I’m always ready,” he added. “Whenever the gaffer calls me, my idea is just to give my best in training, work hard and wait for my opportunity – to take it.

“Hopefully, I’ll just keep my head down, keep working hard every day. Come to the training ground every day and give it my best.

“Whenever the gaffer needs me, I will come and give my best.”
