Man Utd transfer news round-up: Cavani makes final decision as Mason issues Kane update

Manchester United officials are making plans for the upcoming summer transfer window, with the Red Devils on the hunt for a new central defender and centre-forward.

Red Devils chiefs want to improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad ahead of a Premier League title challenge next season.

Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are on their shortlist for the summer, as is Jules Kounde.

But they have also got decisions to make within the squad, with a host of players close to leaving the club at the end of the season.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is approaching the end of his tenure at Old Trafford, and will want one final splash in the transfer market before he departs.

Here are today's latest transfer rumours.

Cavani's final decision

Edinson Cavani has apparently decided to stay at Manchester United (GETTY)

Edinson Cavani has decided he wants to stay at United beyond the expiration of his contract, reports suggest.

The Uruguayan forward is out of contract in the summer, and has been linked with a return to Boca Juniors.

However, after Solskjaer urged him to sign a new deal, it appears he will do so, with an announcement apparently expected next month.

Carragher issues transfer advice

Jamie Carragher believes Man Utd need two new signings (Sky Sports)

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes United could be just two signings away from challenging for the Premier League title, as he explained to the Sky Sports football podcasst.

"I think they could maybe improve at centre-back but they need a young Cavani, basically. That’s what the club needs," he said.

"So two players at both ends of the pitch – a centre-back and a centre forward – and then I don’t think they’re that far away."

Mason's Harry Kane claim

Tottenham boss Ryan Mason believes Champions League football won't be required to keep Harry Kane at the club.

Kane has been tipped to look for a move away this summer, with Spurs' chances of Champions League football dwindling.

However, Mason expressed he believes Kane will stay regardless, saying on Thursday: "Harry Kane loves this football club. That’s been proven over the last seven or eight years."
