Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils 'tracking teenage defender William Saliba'

Manchester United are reportedly pondering a summer swoop for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye of Old Trafford scouts and is valued in the region of £25million.

Any deal would likely see Saliba loaned back to Saint-Etienne for at least one season, according to French outlet Le 10 Sport.

United are seemingly in pole position to secure his signature, but other clubs across the continent are also monitoring Saliba's situation.

Saliba has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign in France, featuring 13 times in Ligue 1 including seven starts as they chase European football for next term.

The France Under-19 international is most comfortable at centre-half but can also play on the right-hand side of defence.

Jose Mourinho was desperate to land a centre-back last summer but failed in his chase for Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng.

But it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may well go for a younger option rather than an established top-class stopper.

United have also been linked with Samuel Umtiti with Barcelona thought to be willing to sell in order to land Ajax's Matthijs de Ligt.
