Man Utd transfer news: Raphael Varane emerges as target for European giants

Juventus have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane this summer.

The Red Devils are looking to bolster their defensive ranks and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to oversee a huge squad overhaul at the end of this season.

But Juve are also in the hunt for reinforcements and Varane is interesting the Italian giants.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport , the recently-crowned Serie A champions are weighing up an offer for the French centre-back.

Andrea Barzagli is set to retire at the end of the season, while Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are both in their 30s.

That has led to the Turin outfit weighing up their options, and Varane is believed to be interested in a new challenge this summer.

Recently-returned Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is set to rebuild this summer, but he has no interest in parting with his compatriot, despite Madrid having already signed Porto defender Eder Militao ahead of the summer transfer window.

Varane is Solskjaer’s top target this summer behind Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho, highlighting defence as a main area the strengthen.

Zidane recently claimed that he doesn't see a future at the club without the player he personally recommended to the club as a teenager.

"I do not want a Real Madrid without Varane," said Zidane. "He is a young player who has been here for eight years.”
