Man Utd transfer news: PSG 'hatch plan' to sign De Gea for free

Paris-Saint Germain plan to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea for free next year, according to latest reports.

De Gea is being heavily linked with a summer move away from Old Trafford after a tough season having failed to agree a big-money contract extension.

United are keen to keep the Spanish keeper but know they could lose him for nothing when his contract ends next summer.

PSG have long been expected to swoop for him, specially now that United have failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

And it appears United are already making contingency plans for life without De Gea, with the Daily Record reporting Jasper Cillessen is a leading candidate to head to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, PSG have an eye on the demands of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, and may look to sign a pre-contract agreement with De Gea next January that would see him move to Paris for free in the summer of 2020 - according to The Express .

With no fee to be paid, the Ligue 1 champions could then tempt him with a bigger salary.

Cillessen, meanwhile, is understood to have been on United's shortlist for a significant period of time having been identified as a possible replacement for De Gea back when Louis Van Gaal feared he would leave in 2015.

United's recruitment staff have explored several options with De Gea linked with Juventus , Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid as the Red Devils consider cashing in to reinvest in their squad.

Cillessen has decided he wants to leave the Nou Camp in the summer having made just 30 appearances across three season and been unable to displace Marc-Andre ter Stegen as No.1.

Speaking to Dutch TV last month, he said: “First I will go on holiday. And then I hope to have a new club where I can play, because I want to play.”
