Man Utd transfer deadline day update as two exits expected but duo to stay

Manchester United are not expected to sign anyone on transfer deadline day, focusing instead on outgoings.

Defender Marcos Rojo, who has yet to feature this season, is returning to his native Argentina with Boca Juniors.

Rojo, signed by former United boss Louis van Gaal from Sporting Lisbon for £16million in 2014, has become surplus to requirements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Although there are not expected to be any issues with the deal, the transfer window in Argentina does not close until February 19, so there is no urgency to get the move done today.

United have received interest in defender Brandon Williams and winger Daniel James, but both are expected to stay put, rather than go out on loan today.

Southampton have expressed interest in taking left-back Williams on loan, while West Brom, Brighton, Burnley and Leeds are all understood to have enquired about James.

United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is out of contract at the end of this season, but looks set to remain at the club until the summer, when he can leave as a free agent.

Romero has been axed from United's Premier League and Champions League squads, and has not played since season, falling out of favour following the return of Dean Henderson, who is now No.2 to David De Gea.

Phil Jones also is likely to stay put until the summer, with United unable to offload him, despite fleeting interest in the defender from Burnley last summer.

Jones, another omitted from United's Premier League and Champions League squads, has played just eight times in the past two seasons, yet has two-and-a-half years to run on his current deal.

Defender Teden Mengi, 18, promoted to the first-team squad this season but yet to make his debut, is heading on loan to Championship side Derby for the remainder of the campaign.
