Man Utd told to make three signings this summer to compete next season

Manchester United have been told to make three signings this summer if they want to compete for the title next season.

The Red Devils have shown impressive form since the turn of the year, and fans are already dreaming of bigger things in the seasons to come.

Bruno Fernandes' arrival, coupled with the emergence of Mason Greenwood and the return of Paul Pogba, has brought the feel-good factor back to Old Trafford under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright feels United should not be getting ideas above their station just yet, and advised them to recruit wisely in the upcoming transfer market.

"It’s important who they [Man Utd] buy now," Wright said on Optus Sport . "I think a defender is needed and maybe a left-back.

“I’d still go for [Jadon] Sancho if I could, depending on what that will cost, because they still need a calibre of players that’s gonna be challenging – not just the teams in this league, but Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“You want the best that you can possibly get to keep the fight in that squad and keep them trying to achieve."

A deal for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho is still in the offing, but the two clubs are still some way off agreeing on a fee.

United boss Solskjaer has admitted he is still in the dark over how much money he will have to invest this summer, and a move for the winger would likely wipe out much if not all of this summer's budget.

Speculation continues to link United with a move for a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire, with Victor Lindelof's position under threat.

Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings, Bournemouth's Nathan Ake and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly have all been linked, and Wright feels the jury is still out on another member of the club's back four.

“You put Koulibaly in that squad… Luke Shaw has been in and out of that squad – we know what potential he had and whether or not he’s going to be able to fulfil that, because we’re still not seeing a settled left-back playing the kind of game that you want to see someone do.

“Maybe a left-back, a centre-half and that team with a Sancho in it as well which would help with the competition for places.”
