Man Utd told Mauricio Pochettino will reject top job as doubts over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continue

Manchester United have been told Mauricio Pochettino will reject an approach from the Red Devils by former England boss Sam Allardyce.

United are in the midst of their worst start to a season for 30 years and pressure is on current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to turn around his flops.

They sit just two points above the relegation zone after eight games played and host table-topping Liverpool - who boast a 100 per cent record so far - at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Pochettino has been linked with a switch from Tottenham - who themselves have had a tricky start to the campaign - to United, but Allardyce reckons the Argentine would snub any approach from the Theatre of Dreams.

"I can’t see Mauricio going anywhere at the moment," Allardyce said.

"At the moment, Tottenham are a better squad than Manchester United – and that is a telling fact.

"It’s alright saying, 'this is Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world', but has it got the team to go with it to represent Manchester United?"

Spurs are ninth in the table, three points outside the top four, and have also suffered a humbling defeat to League Two Colchester in the Carabao Cup and a 7-2 hammering by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Pochettino's men host Watford on Saturday.
