Man Utd told Edinson Cavani mistake has highlighted major Ole Gunnar Solskjaer problem

Manchester United have been told they need to go out and find a top-class striker who is comfortable receiving the ball to feet.

United icon Mark Hughes discussed the club's striker situation and expressed he feels they got Edinson Cavani five years too late.

Speaking to Sky Sports, 'Sparky' expressed he is a big fan of the Uruguayan, who United signed on a free transfer last summer after he left Paris Saint-Germain, because he can get the ball to feet and make stuff happen around him.

Cavani, has been impressive since making the move to Old Trafford and has offered them a different option to Anthony Martial, who is less of a poacher and goalscorer.

And Hughes claimed United need to sign a striker similar to Cavani, 34, who can provide the team with a focus and thrive down the middle.

He explained that he believes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are both fine talents, but don't play in the same way as Cavani does.

"I've seen United lots, and they've got good quality at the top end of the pitch. [Marcus] Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood is highly thought of.

"But for me, they needed Cavani five years ago when he was in his pomp. They probably got him at the wrong time. He's still an outstanding centre forward.

"When I see him playing in this team, I think he gives them a little more focus. They've got confidence going into his feet and things happen around him."

He continued by explaining that he believes both Greenwood and Rashford are better out wide, and that even Martial is better off playing on the left.

Hughes added: "The reality is, the other players we've mentioned, with Martial as well, they all want to play in any other position rather than down the middle.

"Rashford would prefer to be down the left side. Martial would prefer the left side. Greenwood prefers the right.

"Whereas they've all been tried down the middle but you sense not one of them really wants to be there. They need to get somebody with that quality to play down the middle to give them that focus."
