Man Utd 'to tempt Paul Pogba to stay with bumper £500k per week contract offer'

Manchester United are ready to pull out all the stops to keep hold of Paul Pogba - by offering him a HUGE new contract.

The Red Devils midfielder has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer, and did little to dispel the rumours.

Pogba admitted he thought the time was right for him to embark on a new challenge, forcing United to slap a £150m price tag on his head.

Now the Mail report that United will go one better in a bid to tempt the World Cup winner to stay at Old Trafford, by almost doubling his wages.

Pogba is currently on £290k per week wages, but United are prepared to increase that to £500k per week to bring him on par with the club's top earner Alexis Sanchez.

United's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is determined to keep Pogba at the club - as much for his commercial value as well as his playing ability.

Pogba was United's standout player in a disappointing season which saw the Red Devils fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

With interest from Madrid and former club Juventus on the table though, Pogba's head has now been turned.

Speaking at a promotional event in Japan, Pogba said: "For me, I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great - some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody, like everywhere else.

“After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well... I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else."

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to build his side around the 26-year-old, but realises it may do more harm than good to keep a player at the club when his heart lies elsewhere.

Madrid have already made an attempt to sign Pogba, offering £90 million, which is the same fee United paid to sign him from Juventus back in 2016.

A move to the Spanish capital is Pogba's preference, with his desire to link up with Madrid boss and French compatriot Zinedine Zidane, who is a keen admirer of the midfielder.
