Man Utd to rival Liverpool for Bournemouth's David Brooks as Jadon Sancho alternative

Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks and could go up against bitter rivals Liverpool to land the player.

Brooks has impressed for the Cherries for the last two seasons, but following their relegation to the Championship they may be forced to sell him.

A price tag of £50m is believed to have been placed on his head, and according to Sport Witness United are seriously considering a bid if they cannot finalise a deal for their No.1 target Jadon Sancho.

They are likely to face competition, however, with reports earlier this month suggesting Liverpool are also weighing up a move for Brooks, and we could be set for a transfer tug-of-war between the two giants.

United are being forced to consider alternatives to Sancho, with negotiations with Dortmund seemingly at a standstill as the German club are not currently willing to listen to offers under their eyewatering £108m valuation.

The likes of Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Douglas Costa of Juventus are on their radar, but Brooks is another who is said to be interesting them.

Brooks joined Bournemouth from Sheffield United in 2018 in a £11.5m deal and he scored seven Premier League goals in his first season at the Vitality Stadium.

His 2019-20 campaign was disrupted by injury, but he returned to action after lockdown, although was unable to save his side from the drop.

He has also won 12 caps for Wales and is expected to be involved in their European Championship campaign next summer.

His contract is not due to expire until 2022, however, meaning Bournemouth are in a relatively strong negotiating position.

The Cherries have already let their star defender Nathan Ake go, with the Dutchman signing for Manchester City for a fee of £41m, and the likes of Brooks and striker Callum Wilson are being eyed up by Premier League clubs.
