Man Utd to receive cut as Adnan Januzaj closes in on transfer to Roma

Manchester United could reportedly receive up to 30 percent of any fee paid for their former player Adnan Januzaj if the Belgian winger moves to Roma from Real Sociedad.

Recent reports have linked the 24-year-old with a switch to Serie A, with the Italian club said to be willing to pay around £15.2m for the player.

As part of a clause in the deal which saw Januzaj move to Sociedad, United could therefore receive a fee of about £4.5m as a result of the transfer, according to the Sun.

United fans will no doubt be hoping this money is reinvested in a new player, with the out-of-form team still yet to invest in a signing so far this month.

Januzaj first broke into the United team in the 2013-2014 season, where he made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.

He failed to live up to his early form at Old Trafford, however, and following loan moves to Dortmund and Sunderland he eventually joined Sociedad, where he has been a first-team regular ever since.

Roma are currently fourth in Serie A, and are desperately looking for a replacement for key player Nicolo Zaniolo, who is out for the rest of the season after tearing his crucial ligament and meniscus.

Januzaj, who has also won 12 caps for Belgium and scored against England in their 1-0 win in World Cup 2018, never quite kicked on from his impressive start at United, and his former academy boss Nicky Butt recently said he was one of the most talented players he had seen.

"For me, the biggest disappointment at this club was Adnan Januzaj," Butt told ESPN last year.

"I don’t think I’ve seen a player, probably since Ryan (Giggs), who was as good as that. He was unbelievable.

"In my eyes he should have gone on to be a world superstar."
