Man Utd 'to make £60m James Maddison transfer bid' next summer

Manchester United are reportedly set to look to raid Leicester for a second straight summer by launching a bid for James Maddison.

The Red Devils paid a world record £80million fee for a defender to tempt the Foxes to part with Harry Maguire this summer and now have their sights on his former team-mate.

Fellow England international Maddison, handed his first call-up by Gareth Southgate last month, looks set to cost at least £60million after proving his worth in the Premier League.

But The Times claim he is top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's wish list and the club are ready to launch their bid next summer.

Maddison was kept relatively quiet as United's revamped backline, led by Maguire, shut out the Foxes in a 1-0 win at the weekend.

But Solskjaer remains a huge admirer of the England Under 21 playmaker.

He was reportedly aware that Leicester would be unwilling to sell two of their biggest stars at the same time, focusing his efforts on Maguire but now turning his attentions to another major transfer from the King Power Stadium.

Maddison's status as a young British player means he is seen as a preferred option to Christian Eriksen, who has also been considered by Solskjaer to bolster their creativity in midfield.

Maguire remains on good terms with his former Leicester team-mates, with Hamza Choudhury revealing he visited their dressing room after the game at Old Trafford on Saturday to catch up with his former team-mates.

“He’s been in the changing room chatting with the boys. It’s nice," Choudhury told LeicestershireLive after the game.

“We’re mates, so everyone is happy to see him doing well here, but we’re just concentrating on ourselves and trying to put things right.”

Solskjaer will be hoping Maguire can help him tempt Maddison to join him at Old Trafford next summer in a move which would mark a similar transfer approach to his summer signings of youngsters Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
