Man Utd to have free run at Jadon Sancho alternative after Bayern Munich decision

Manchester United could finally get their hands on Ivan Perisic after Bayern Munich were unable to make his loan move permanent.

The Croatian has spent the year at the Allianz Arena where he has become a treble winner.

He will now return to Inter Milan but for years has been linked with a move to the Red Devils.

Bayern were keen to keep hold of the 31-year-old but could not agree a deal with Inter while Perisic's wages were also an issue.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add a wide forward with Jadon Sancho their No 1 transfer target this summer.

But Borussia Dortmund are playing hardball over the £100m star who they are keen to retain and have involved in their pre-season preparations.

It may force United to seek alternatives, one of which could be Perisic.

The World Cup runner-up scored eight times in 35 appearances for the Bavarians who have thanked him for his efforts.

Manager Hansi Flick said: “I’d like to thank Ivan for his performances and his contribution to winning the treble. We were very happy working with him.

"You could see Ivan’s qualities, in particular at the Champions League finals tournament in Lisbon.”

And those sentiments have been echoed by sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

He said: “Ivan has behaved very professionally over the past year and he was an important member of our team and played his part in winning the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League.

"We wish him all the best for the future.”

Perisic has previously discussed the possibility of joining United, which was close during Jose Mourinho's tenure.

"It's true that an offer from Manchester United was on the table," he said. "I was really close to leaving Inter.

"When Luciano Spalletti arrived [in June 2017], he showed tremendous desire to keep me in the team and made it clear he didn't want to lose me."
