Man Utd to defy coronavirus fears with training decision amid Premier League suspension

Manchester United will train as normal throughout the enforced suspension of football due to the coronavirus.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players plan to stick to their daily training schedule at the AON Training Complex.

The coronavirus outbreak that has forced the suspension of all league football in England means there will be no games until April 3 at the earliest.

That leaves teams vulnerable to the fitness levels of their players dropping off during the enforced break, with United proceeding as normal to ensure the squad remains at its peak before the expected resumption of the season.

United have not yet decided whether they will arrange behind closed doors games at their trading ground, against other teams, to keep their players sharp during the blanket suspension.

United, who beat LASK Linz 5-0 away in the Europa League on Thursday, were due to travel to Tottenham in the Premier League tomorrow, but now face a waiting game with the rest of the teams in the top four leagues in England.

Solskjaer and United executive vice-chairman have both sent messages to supporters following the decision to suspend football, with United still in the FA Cup and Europa League this season.

"I would like to thank our fans for their tremendous support so far this season and we look forward to welcoming them back to Old Trafford as soon as is safely possible," said Solskjaer via the Man Utd website .

Woodward added: "While it is disappointing to see the season paused, we recognise there are bigger considerations as part of the need to help slow the spread of coronavirus."

Premier League clubs will hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss plans for the season going forward.
