Man Utd target Saul Niguez sparks Twitter frenzy by announcing he's joining new club

Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has set tongues wagging with a tweet that seems to suggest he may be set for a move away from the club.

The 25-year-old has spent his whole career at Atletico other than a season on loan at Rayo Vallecano, and he has become a hugely important player for Diego Simeone's side.

During the current campaign he has made 26 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals, while he also scored in the first leg of his team's 4-2 aggregate victory over Liverpool in the Champions League last-16.

There has been speculation that Saul could move on from the Wanda Metropolitano in the near future, with United among those said to be interested in the £70m rated player.

And the Spain international caused a stir on Sunday when he posted on Twitter : "I want to communicate something very important to me," along with an image which read: "NEW CLUB - I'll announce it in 3 days..."

The message sent Twitter into meltdown, with a number of United fans speculating he could be on the verge of a move to Old Trafford.

It is not yet clear, however, whether Saul is referring to a change of football club or whether the message could be linked to an advertising campaign.

He signed a nine-year contract in 2017 which runs until June 2026, and he has repeatedly expressed his happiness to be at the club in the past.

All will become clear on Wednesday, but until then United supporters may be dreaming of seeing Saul lining up alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in midfield.

This is not the first time an Atletico Madrid player has speculated over their future in a somewhat unorthodox manner.

In 2018 Antoine Griezmann released a video called La Decision, in which he announced he would turn down the advances of Barcelona to stay at Atletico.

The move was heavily criticised, and in the end he joined the Catalan giants the following summer anyway.
