Man Utd target Matthijs de Ligt urged to snub PSG and choose between two clubs

Matthijs de Ligt has been warned off his increasingly expected switch to Paris Saint-Germain by Dutch legend Ronald de Boer.

The teenage centre-back has become one of the hottest properties of the transfer window following a stellar season with Ajax in which he captained his side to the Eredivisie title and helped steer them to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

De Ligt was also a key member of the Netherlands side which reached the final of the UEFA Nations League, and started in defence alongside Virgil van Dijk in the semi-final victory over England and 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the final.

Several of Europe's top clubs have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old this summer, with PSG now said to be muscling towards the front of the queue ahead of other suitors such as Barcelona and Manchester United .

The latest reports indicate that De Ligt's agent Mino Raiola has opened talks with the French outfit , but other sides remain in the frame.

And former Barca and Netherlands star De Boer gave some transfer advice to his fellow countryman, which included advising him to join a side who haven't been strongly linked with him this summer.

"I don't think it would be the best option for him to join Paris Saint-Germain," De Boer told Sport .

"It's a great team but they aren't amongst the elite and his style of play won't develop there.

"(Manchester) City or Barcelona would be the best sides for his style of play, I'm sure.

"He's a player with a lot of talent and is coming off a fantastic season.

"His playing style would fit in at Barca because it isn't too different to that of Ajax. He'll be a success."
