Man Utd target Matthijs de Ligt 'close to transfer' as Mino Raiola relationship proves key

Matthijs de Ligt could be set to snub both Barcelona and Manchester United after Paris Saint-Germain appeared to steal a march on their rivals.

The 19-year-old Ajax wonderkid is thought to not be sold on Barcelona's offer, with PSG presenting the more favourable terms for the young defender.

De Ligt is represented by super-agent Mino Raiola, who has a good relationship with PSG's sporting director Leonardo, and this could prove a key factor in the move taking place.

De Ligt refused to give any hints as to where his future lies after the Netherland's Nations League final loss to Portugal, and simply replied "I don't know, I don't know" when asked by reporters, saying he would first go on holiday before making a final decision.

It was initially thought that the centre-back- who lit up the Champions League this season with brilliant performances against the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus - was most in favour of a move to Barcelona , especially with his team-mate Frenkie de Jong joining the Catalan giants.

But he now appears less sure about the prospect, and he could still end up at any one of Europe's elite clubs.

He revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo tried to convince him to join Juventus following the Nations League clash, while United are unlikely to let the matter go, and could yet return with a big offer.

De Ligt is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football, and he was a big part of the reason why Ajax made it to the Champions League semi-finals.

He has also become a crucial part of the Netherlands team, and scored against England in their 3-1 Nations League semi-final victory on Thursday.

He became captain of Ajax this season, and appeared 33 times in the Eredivisie, scoring three times.
