Man Utd target Matias Vecino 'gives blessing' to Everton transfer

Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino is said to be open to the idea of a move to Everton amid speculation which has also linked him with Manchester United.

The Uruguay international has made 14 appearances in Serie A this season, scoring once, but it is believed Inter are willing to let the player go this month as they feel they have enough strength in depth in that position.

United are known to be looking for a central midfielder before the close of the transfer window on Friday, and allegedly saw Vecino as a potential option, but according to Gazzetta dello Sport it is the Toffees who have made the first move.

They claim that Everton have made an offer via intermediaries, with their manager Carlo Ancelotti said to be a big fan of Vecino having got to know the player as an opponent during his time in charge of Napoli.

The 28-year-old on his part is thought to be interested in a switch to the Premier League, and is intrigued by the idea of linking up with Ancelotti, but it remains to be seen if Inter and Everton can agree a fee, with the Italian club wanting at least €20m (£16.8m) to allow Vecino to leave.

Vecino first joined Inter from Fiorentina in 2017, and was an important part of the first-team for his first two seasons at the club.

His playing time has been more limited this year, however, and he would likely relish the chance to try his hand in a new league.

Everton are yet to make a signing this month, despite being linked with a number of players, and the experience of Vecino could be a big asset for Ancelotti as they look for a strong second half of the season.
