Man Utd submit second transfer bid for Jadon Sancho as clubs work on compromise

Manchester United have submitted a second bid of £72.5million for England winger Jadon Sancho.

Although United's latest bid is still £5m short of Borussia Dortmund's valuation of Sancho, a compromise is expected to be reached to allow the deal to go ahead.

United's opening bid of £60m was rejected by Dortmund, but the latest offer is likely to be accepted, with a potential £10m in add-ons attached to the fee.

Sancho is United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's No.1 transfer target this summer, after failing to land him last summer when Dortmund were demanding £110m for the 20-year-old.

But in the post-Covid transfer market, Dortmund have been forced to reduce their valuation of Sancho, with United now close to a figure that will be accepted by the Bundesliga club.

United have already agreed personal terms with Sancho, who is expected to sign a five-year deal – with the option of an extra year – on wages of around £250,000-a-week.

While there is still a gap in terms of United's latest bid and Dortmund's asking price, there is a willingness on both sides to get the deal done so all parties can move on.

Dortmund have gentleman's agreement in place with Sancho, whereby he can leave if their valuation is met, with that moment edging closer with United's latest bid.

BVB chiefs have made it clear they expect any transfer to be finalised by the end of July at the very latest, but it seems that deadline will be well beaten.

It is doubtful England boss Gareth Southgate will allow Sancho time away from camp to complete the deal, with the more likely solution being he will have to wait until their Euro 2020 campaign has concluded before officially putting pen to paper.

Sancho has so far only made one appearance for his country in the tournament - a 10-minute cameo against Czech Republic on Tuesday - despite a thrilling season for Dortmund where he recorded 16 goals and 14 assists.

That had even come after a slow start, with figures at Dortmund conceding Sancho had initially been affected by the transfer speculation last summer.

He was disappointed at missing out on a move to Old Trafford after setting his heart on the switch, but looks to be finally getting his wish.

Landing a player of Sancho's calibre will be a major coup for United as Solskjaer eyes a stronger title challenge next term.

Right wing was highlighted as one of the key areas for improvement this summer by the United boss, and returning for Sancho was always at the forefront of their transfer plans.

His arrival will provide United's attack with a much-needed boost, as well as give Solskjaer more opportunities to play Mason Greenwood in a central striker role.
