Man Utd stars 'face 25 per cent wage cut' if they miss out on Champions League spot

Missing out on the Champions League next season could cost Manchester United players up to 25% of their wages.

The Red Devils are battling to secure a top four finish in the Premier League but turn their attentions to a huge European clash with Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Their superstars have plenty on the line over the remainder of the season knowing they face significant pay cuts if they miss out.

According to The Sun , the deals of players at Old Trafford are structured to take up to a quarter of their wages away if they lose out on the windfall generated by qualifying for the top European competition.

United have a reputation among agents as a club who deduct from salaries if they don't reach the Champions League.

Club chiefs have been open about their wage reductions when presenting annual results in the past and have also revealed their kit deal with Adidas gets reduced by 30% if they miss out on the competition for two straight years.

As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing a huge end to the season, particularly as wage cuts could contribute to the likes of Paul Pogba and David De Gea deciding to leave the club with their futures still uncertain.

Pogba has heavily been linked with a Real Madrid move in recent weeks and was a beneficiary of their return to the top table of European football two years ago when his salary was boosted to £300,000-a-week.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, just three points off fourth placed Tottenham with six games remaining.
