Man Utd star told he "doesn't look like he enjoys football" after surprise defeat

Anthony Martial has been heavily criticised following Manchester United's defeat with Trevor Sinclair questioning whether he "enjoys football".

The forward and his team-mates were on the receiving end of a shock as Sheffield United left Old Trafford with all three points.

United were well below par which came as a surprise given their form in recent months.

Their attack failed to get going while Martial was also picked out for his role in the winning goal.

He ambled back after losing the ball when the Blades broke forward in numbers.

And Sinclair questioned what he offered on Wednesday night in a scathing assessment of the player and his desire

“I’m looking at what Anthony Martial has brought to the table,” said Sinclair on talkSPORT. “Has he tried any take-ons today?

“As a winger or number nine you’ve got to have a go and try and express yourself.

“He doesn’t even look like he enjoys football!”

Former Red Devil Rio Ferdinand also singled out the Frenchman for his poor display and role in the winning goal.

Martial was left on the bench for Sunday's win over Liverpool before being restored to the starting XI.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident his striker will begin firing again, but admitted he could not defend his or the team's display.

“I think the whole team will probably get criticism tonight and myself as well,” he said.

“I don’t think Anthony is exempt from that, I think we all should be criticised because we didn’t perform.

“I know Anthony is working really hard in training, working on his finishing, working on his movement. I’ve got no qualms that he’ll come good.”

Martial has scored just once in 2021 - a goal on New Year's Day against Aston Villa.
